Resin painting

As a fan of the YouTube channel Evan & Katelyn, I’ve always been fascinated by everything that can be created using resin. I was even more excited when I received a voucher for a resin (epoxy) workshop. The result was a painting of the sea and a beach.

The workshop took place one weekend afternoon in the center of Prague, with a total of eight participants. The instructor first explained the basic theory - what resin is and how to work with it (which I already mostly knew thanks to E&K). She then showed us her own work, and some of the pieces were truly massive.

Then we moved on to the actual creating: first planning the composition of the artwork, deciding what would go where, followed by gluing stones, live moss, and sand. And then came the most exciting part - resin time!

It was necessary to mix components A and B in an exact ratio, then add the desired colors (mixing light blue separately, dark blue separately, and white separately). After that, it was just a matter of pouring the resin onto the artwork and using a heat gun to create waves. Since resin starts to harden after a certain amount of time, the window for working with it was quite limited.

After finishing the piece, the hardest part was waiting for everything to fully cure. That meant going home and picking up the artwork the following day, once it was finished and there was no risk of the resin shifting or getting damaged by touch. It was also interesting to compare how the piece had changed since I first created it. Resin cures gradually, so some of the waves had time to move slightly, or some of the colors blended more than expected. Still, I’m definitely happy with the result. It’s not perfect, but for a first attempt, it’s great. I really enjoyed it and would happily try working with resin again :)
